Our Love Story

Owen & Chloe

On October 3rd, 2021, the day Owen was baptized in Gainesville, Chloe walked up to him to introduce herself and congratulate him. What she didn’t know was that Owen had already noticed her weeks before—ever since the first time he saw her singing on stage for worship, he had been smitten.

They exchanged numbers and quickly became close friends. Their first hangout was carving pumpkins for Halloween, which turned into hours of talking and laughing. They knew they enjoyed each other’s company… like, a lot. By January, it was obvious there was something special between them. But Chloe told Owen she wasn’t ready to start dating just yet. She was still trying to figure out her feelings and she felt they both still had things to grow in before taking that step. Owen, though disappointed, respected her honesty and stayed a loyal friend.

Over the next few months, their friendship kept growing. Owen’s heart never wavered, but Chloe—still unsure of her feelings—had another hard conversation with him, telling him he should “just move on” (spoiler alert: he did not move on.) Even then, Owen stayed a kind and steady friend in Chloe’s life. During one of their phone calls that spring, he told her, “If all I ever get to be to you is your friend, I’m still the luckiest guy.” Those words touched her deeply, showing her the kind of man he was.

While Owen was living back home in Tampa that semester, Chloe found herself missing him more than she wanted to admit. She even used taking her sister to visit a friend in Tampa as an excuse to see him. They spent the whole weekend together—exploring downtown, laughing, enjoying each other’s company, and proving once again that they really were better together. For Chloe, it became clear just how much she cared for him.

Back in Gainesville, a few of her friends encouraged her to accept her feelings, stop overthinking, and just admit it already: she liked Owen. So much. Even though she tried to resist, she couldn’t deny the truth that she loved being with him, she cared for him deeply, and life just wasn’t the same without him.

When Owen returned to Gainesville, Chloe finally found the courage to put her heart on the line. She wrote him a letter, poured her feelings into it, and read it to him on the top floor of a Publix near their house (because who needs a fancy rooftop when you have Publix?). A few days later, they made it offical. Owen asked Chloe to be his girlfriend on May 4, 2023. Since then, the 4th of every month has been their own little holiday.

Dating has been a joyful adventure. They love their Disney trips, country concerts, and handwritten letters. Somewhere along the way, Chloe proudly converted to being a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, while Owen converted to a wardrobe that finally consisted of more than just Bucs t-shirts. They support each other’s goals and have grown to share each other’s interests.

The last year brought new challenges when Chloe moved to Palm Beach to begin her career, and they faced long distance for the first time. It wasn’t easy, but it made their relationship stronger. They learned to communicate better, to love each other through the miles, and to treasure the time they had together even more.

This past summer, Owen asked Chloe to marry him. They didn’t want to spend another day apart. And now, after years of friendship, growth, patience, and love, they’re counting down the days until they say “I do” and begin the sweetest chapter of all… building their little life together! They can’t wait to live the rest of their lives loving each other and glorifying God with their marriage!
